Memorandum of Understanding

Dnipropetrovs'k

Transatlantic Partners against AIDS, hereinafter referred to as the TPAA, represented by President John Tedstrom, on the one part, and Dnipropetrovs'k Regional State Administration represented by the Chairman of Regional State Administration Volodymyr YATSUBA, on the other part:

WHEREAS

  • realizing that HIV/AIDS results in essential economic, social and human rights consequences and has a direct influence onto the overall competitiveness of the region;
  • valuing the health and the prosperity of all citizens;
  • recognizing that Ukraine faces the strategically complicated problem of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which causes AIDS;
  • recognizing that business and government bodies plays important roles in the struggle with HIV/AIDS, and accordingly shall take part in development and realization of the national program for HIV/AIDS;
  • recognizing the necessity of compliance with international norms in all spheres of public policy and the provision of education and prevention programs to ensure health and human rights;
  • emphasizing Dnipropetrovs'k's desire to adhere to international standards and advance Ukraine's integration with Europe;
  • welcoming the support of international bodies and pledging to work with them to stem the HIV epidemic;
  • embracing all those who live with HIV and honoring their dignity and civil liberties

    The Regional State Administration undertakes:

  • to collaborate with TPAA in creation of the anti-AIDs strategies and programs;
  • to carry out a forum for discussion by the business, political and civil society on the problems related to HIV/AIDS;
  • to stimulate participation of regional business in the "Transatlantic Business and Labor Task Force on HIV/AIDS".

    TPAA undertakes:

  • to bear the full responsibility for substantive and financial management of related projects;
  • to provide necessary administration resources for joint projects & programs;
  • to work directly with the leadership of the oblast' to implement and expand projects aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS.
