Moscow, Russia – Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS (TPAA) released a new report today on the HIV/AIDS situation in the strategic cities of Zheleznogorsk and Zelenogorsk in the Russian region of Krasnoyarsk Kray. The report provides analysis and recommendations designed to enhance the capacity of municipal public health institutions to (1) develop and implement strategies to fight HIV/AIDS, (2) ensure cross-sector cooperation, and (3) increase access to information, resources and best practices related to HIV/AIDS prevention.
The publication showcases a replicable model for responding to HIV/AIDS at the local level that could be used in other Russian strategic cities. The project report was first presented at the International Conference on U.S.-Russia Far East Partnerships (Vladivostok, 13-15 September 2006).
TPAA, in cooperation with the Krasnoyarsk Regional AIDS Center, authored the report, drawing on the work of the partnership project entitled, “Building the Capacity of the Krasnoyarsk Regional AIDS Center to Support an Effective Response to HIV/AIDS in Strategic Cities of Krasnoyarsk Kray.” The project was implemented with support from the Foundation for Russian–American Economic Cooperation (FRAEC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from September 2005 to September 2006.
